How can we fight identity theft?

In the banking business and the government sector, document fraud is a very real risk. These frauds generally involve identity theft. Every day, many people in France fall victim to identity theft and complain to the police. These offences are punished severely by the law, but they are still increasingly frequent. As well as being troublesome for individuals, these frauds cost businesses and states thousands of euros every year. To avoid the risk of identity theft, it is vital to make effective use of processes that offer greater security, such as digital identities The customer/citizen creates an account online and undertakes a series of checks. They can then authenticate their identity on the internet (to a website or application) in a few seconds, totally securely, using their mobile and a secret code.

What is PSD2?

On 24 July 2013, the European Commission published a legislative package that included a proposed revision to the Payment Services Directive (DSP2). This new, modernised legislative framework takes account of technological developments and new use cases that have emerged in the payment market since PSD1 was adopted in 2007 (continued growth in e-commerce, development of m-commerce etc.).

The trust that French people place in their banks is based on the security of the payment methods they provide. This is why banking institutions invest continuously in securing payments on a large scale. The directive requires strong authentication (proof of identity) for payments of over 30 euros.

How can we protect our digital identities? How is access to a digital identity secured? offers end users a pathway using two authentication factors: a phone and a code. The user enters their phone number (which becomes their identifier) into the mobile app and creates a secret code (required during authentication). The app then asks them to enter an email address and capture their identity card or passport. At the same time, it asks them to take a photo of themselves. It then carries out a series of checks. The user’s personal data is only ever shared with their explicit agreement.
